Our Mission
To work with partners and supporters to create a societal tipping point towards genuine emergency action on the climate and nature crisis - action necessary to protect the public and strengthen the UK’s economy and security.
In light of the risks now clearly established by independent experts, we are calling for:
1. A televised national emergency briefing
The Government should deliver a prime-time, multi-channel televised national emergency briefing to the nation, launching a major public engagement plan to cut through disinformation. Our plain-speaking experts have shown how this can be done. There should then be regular televised updates.
2. National emergency response
The Government should launch a science-led national emergency response to climate and nature breakdown showing the same leadership and determination as in WW2 and during the financial crisis. This should include emergency legislation to drive a rapid reduction in emissions whilst investing to adapt to a more dangerous climate. Evidence shows that such action will create jobs and improve lives.
3. Lead stronger global action
COP has failed to deliver the scale of global action needed. By taking steps (1) and (2), the UK can establish the credibility required to help lead the coordinated global action that people across the world are calling for.
When credible evidence of national risk is available, institutions have a responsibility to ensure the public is informed.
