This Council notes that:

1. Independent scientific evidence shows that climate change and nature loss present growing risks to public safety, food security, public health, infrastructure, local economies and national security.

   
   

2. Local authorities have responsibilities for assessing and managing foreseeable risks to their communities, including through risk registers, resilience planning and emergency preparedness.

This Council believes that:

3. When credible evidence of national risk is clearly established, public institutions have a responsibility to ensure the public is properly informed.

   
   

This Council resolves to:

Support the call for the UK Government to deliver a prime-time, multi-channel televised national emergency briefing, led by independent experts and supported by the UK’s Chief Scientific Adviser, setting out the climate and nature risks facing the UK and why they matter to people’s lives and livelihoods.

   
   

5. Write to the Prime Minister, the Cabinet Office and local Members of Parliament to communicate this request, and notify the National Emergency Briefing team at info@nebriefing.org so that this Council’s support may be recorded publicly.
