Claim: “The film offers no-one who disagrees.”
Quick Reply
That’s because whether humans are causing climate change is no longer a live scientific debate. The film presents the established evidence, and giving time to fringe views would mislead viewers about where the science stands.
Look closely at the “experts” usually offered as the other side, and many turn out to be linked to lobby groups funded by fossil fuel interests or campaigning against climate action. Funding sources are usually not offered, and critiques are often suspiciously anonymous.
99.9% of scientific studies agree on the fundamentals of human-caused climate change.
More Detail
Every major national science academy, including the UK’s Royal Society, agrees that human activity is driving global warming. More than 99.9% of peer-reviewed climate studies agree too (see note below).
Presenting that evidence doesn’t require “balancing” it with views the evidence doesn’t support, any more than a briefing on smoking needs a tobacco lobbyist.
When critics name the scientists they say were left out, the same few names crop up again and again. Several have longstanding links to organisations that oppose climate action, including:
the CO₂ Coalition, a US lobby group that argues more carbon dioxide is good for the planet;
the Global Warming Policy Foundation, a UK anti-net zero campaign that refuses to name its funders;
a Trump administration panel set up to challenge mainstream climate science, which a US court later found was unlawfully constituted.
Note: Some critics claim the true proportion of climate studies that support human-caused climate change is lower - by counting only papers that explicitly state humans are the main cause. But this absurd argument ignores that most climate papers are studying something else, such as rainfall patterns, ice sheets or crop yields, and have no reason to restate the basics. By that logic, almost no geology papers “agree” the Earth is round. What matters is that virtually none of the studies dispute it.
