Response
The National Emergency Briefing isn’t calling for the government to declare a national emergency or use emergency powers. It is asking for something fundamentally different: for the government to level with the British public about the evidence on the climate and nature crisis, through a briefing led by independent experts.
We are not asking the government to declare a state of emergency, use emergency powers, bypass democratic institutions or impose a particular programme. We are asking it to give people the information they need to understand the risks we face, so that the country can decide how to respond through the democratic process.
