Claim: I don't support calling for National Emergency measures like Reform have done recently

Quick Reply

Reform UK has said they will declare a ‘national emergency’. Is this the same as the National Emergency Briefing is asking?

Reform is using the language of a national emergency to justify extraordinary measures to deliver its political programme. The National Emergency Briefing is asking for something fundamentally different: for the Government to level with the British public about the evidence on the climate and nature crisis, through a briefing led by independent experts.

We are not asking the government to use emergency powers, bypass democratic institutions or impose a particular programme. We are asking it to give people the information they need to understand the risks we face, so that the country can decide how to respond through the democratic process.

There is clear evidence that urgent action will strengthen our economy, resilience, and quality of life.

The National Emergency Briefing exists to help create a societal tipping point towards the action now required. You can help make it happen.
